Reporting after the previous article, Nintendo will fix Joy-Cons sent for repairs for free! Also, if you have paid previously for any repairs from the company, Nintendo’s memo on their website stated that you will be refunded. Some people have reported paying $40 for repairs on ResetEra (Gaming Forum).
A memo received from Vice has reported that Nintendo Representatives have been informed to tell users that Joy-Con repairs are free of charge. No proof of purchase is needed.
“Customers will no longer be requested to provide proof of purchase for Joy-Con repairs,” the internal customer service details say. “Additionally it is not necessary to confirm warranty status. If a customer requests a refund for a previously paid Joy-Con repair […] confirm the prior repair and then issue a refund.”
Perhaps Nintendo will change their manufacturers or obtain different materials for their Joy-Con manufacturing in the near future. Now that Nintendo is no longer charging, feel free to send over your Joy-Cons but be warned as it may take several weeks for its returns.
This is fairly common for most companies not to acknowledge that their hardware has faults. It took years for Xbox to respond regarding the Red Ring of Death.

Have you been feeling a weird movement in your Nintendo Switch games while using your Joy-Cons? Well you’re not the only one. Many reports through Nintendo forums, Reddit and other gaming forums have complained that the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons are defective due to unintentional in-game drifting with the analog sticks.
The lawsuit was finally filed last Friday via the United States District Court in Washington by the law offices of Chimicles, Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith (CSK&D). The lawsuit was filed done on behalf of Ryan Diaz. He purchased a Nintendo Switch back in 2017 and noticed the issues 11 months in. After sending the controllers to Nintendo to fix, the issue resurfaced after 3 months. He also noticed this issue in recently purchased Joy-Con controllers.
Now Nintendo has finally responded. Although they have not responded regarding the class action lawsuit in the US, a spokesperson from the UK told Eurogamer:
“At Nintendo, we take great pride in creating quality products and we are continuously making improvements to them. We are aware of recent reports that some Joy-Con controllers are not responding correctly. We want our consumers to have fun with Nintendo Switch, and if anything falls short of this goal we always encourage them to visit http://support.nintendo.co.uk so we can help.”
So no real solution from Nintendo just yet. Hopefully they will be able to solve this manufacturing issue in the near future for future Joy-Cons. Whether Nintendo can reimburse all the people on the lawsuit with new Joy-Cons is debatable.
