Happy 5th Anniversary to the PlayStation 4

PS4 Fifth Anniversary

The PlayStation 4 has been the dominating console in this current generation. Sony has been releasing great exclusives and has dominated the Xbox One. Below are some of the statistics PlayStation released.

Ironically, the highest selling games aren’t exclusives. Call of Duty remains the most dominant shooters for consoles. FIFA is the most popular sports games. Fortnite needs no introduction as it’s one of the most popular games at the moment. GTA V has recently sold over 100 million units.

Nintendo sues Couple for $12 Million for Rom Site

Nintendo has a long history with ROMs (Read only Memory) which allowed people to play Nintendo games on Emulators or Nintendo handhelds without paying. There are dedicated websites such as GBAtemp or LoveROMS which provide people a hub to download ROMS. As of 2018, Nintendo has been cracking hard on websites and forcing them to shut down. Today, Nintendo won a lawsuit against Jacob Mathias and Cristian Mathias, and their Arizona-based company, Mathias Designs L.L.C for $12 million.

Whether the Mathias’ will have to pay for the full amount remains to be seen. The huge fine may be more a warning against the other ROM sites. If you check out loveroms.com, you’ll see a final message from Jacob and Cristian.

Our website, LoveROMS.com/LoveRetro.co, previously offered and performed unauthorized copies of Nintendo games, in violation of Nintendo’s copyrights and trademarks. LoveROMS.com/LoveRetro.co acknowledges that it caused harm to Nintendo, its partners, and customers by offering infringing copies of Nintendo games and has agreed to cease all such activities. To access legitimate Nintendo games online, please visit http://www.nintendo.com for information about the Nintendo Game Store.

This looks like the end of ROM dedicated website by Nintendo. While many users are angry with Nintendo’s approach, it is still a business. Whether you bought the game or didn’t, Nintendo doesn’t want people distributing ROMS to the public.

P.T. Returns!

Konami has been on a slippery slope with their fans since they fired Hideo Kojima (Creator of Metal Gear series). Kojima’s last project with Konami was P.T. (Playable Teaser for an upcoming Silent Hill game). With his release, the game was canceled by Konami but also removed from the PlayStation Store. This made the demo unobtainable for fans. Luckily, fans have remade the game for the PC. Artur Łączkowski, who is working on a remake of Silent Hill 2helped create the game.

You can download the game through this link. Konami may force Arthur to close the website so get it while you can.

WARNING! Avoid Changing your PlayStation Network Name

Many PlayStation users have been clamoring for the ability to change their PlayStation Network (PSN) name for years. It turns out their cool name as a teenager isn’t as cool 10 years later. In Patch 6.10, it will give users the ability to change their PSN names by late November. However, if you read the fine print, there are some consequences if you happen to change your name.

PS4 system software 6.10 change online ID preview

Users received this message: “Not all games and applications for the PS4™, PS3™, PS Vita, and other PlayStation® systems support the Online ID change feature.”

You may lose access to content (including paid-for content) that you have acquired for your games, including content like add-ons and virtual currency.

You may lose your progress within games, including game saved data, leaderboard data and progress toward trophies.

Parts of your games and applications may not function properly, both online and offline.

Your previous Online ID(s) may remain visible to you and other players in some places.

First change is free for all users.

Second change will be charged at €9.99 / £7.99 (PlayStation®Plus subscribers receive a 50% discount).

If your previous Online ID violates any of the current Terms of Service, you will not be able to revert back to your previous Online ID.

You can revert to your previous Online ID once per account during the preview period.

Sub-Accounts cannot utilise the Change Online ID feature.

After you change your Online ID, it may take a few hours for some services and applications to reflect the new ID.

While the name changes are still in beta, users may be locked out of their own content that they acquired. This is incredibly awful for players who have paid for DLC, items, or other good purchased with real money. Your name being unchanged in front of other players also defeats the purpose of a name change. The name change would only be for yourself.

Hopefully, Sony will listen to the feedback from their fans as many users are unhappy.
